Standing up straight!

Standing up Straight?!?  What does this have to do with healthy living…well, let me explain. 

First of all, many of us spend many hours sitting in front of our computer or in the car all day…slouching or hunching…this can cause muscles & ligaments to degenerate sooner and can lead to back pain & may worsen herniated disks or pinched nerves.

Secondly, good circulation is crucial to keeping your mind alert & your body energized.Slouching tightens your chest & compreses your lungs – which means less oxygen makes its way into your bloodstream, leaving you stressed and tired.

Fewer headaches will have to be dealt with if you are watching your posutre. Gravity draws your head forward when you’re staring at a screen or driving for long periods of time.  Be alert to your posture & avoid some of those nagging headaches!

Poor posture also leads to shortening of the muscles over time.  This can lead to arthritis down the road.

Lastly, but not least important; digestion can be improved by better posture!  Slouching causes your stomach muscles to tighten, which can push stomach acid into your throat and cause heartburn.  By sitting or standing straight, your digestive system can work more efficiently.

Hope you found these tips helpful. I have to remind myself of them often (as I am a sloucher…but certainly not a slacker!  HA!)  :-)
