After reading many articles about the health risk of hot showers, I installed some filtered showerheads so the water my family showers with is purified and not a health risk. We have all heard the expression, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” We have all been led to believe that good hygiene would mean good health. Unfortunately in today’s world that doesn’t seem to be true. The chlorine that is being put into our water supply is affecting many of us adversely. Hot showers can pose a definite health risk.
How many times do you shower a day? You get up in the morning and you shower. You work out at the gym and you shower. Some people may also shower before they go to bed. How much chlorine are you exposing your body and lungs to everyday? What are the long-term consequences of showering with chlorinated water? Do you clean with chlorine? Are you using chlorine in your wash? If Chlorine is that toxic to us, what is it doing to our children and animals? Why are our athletes refusing to swim in chlorinated water? Why should we be filtering our shower water? As early as 1986 the American Chemical Society reported taking long hot showers is a health risk and can even be dangerous. The toxic chemicals are inhaled in high concentrations. People who shower frequently could be exposed through ingestion, inhalation and/or dermal absorption.
A Professor of Water Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh claims that exposure to vaporized chemicals in water supplies through showering, bathing and inhalation is 100 times greater than through drinking the water.
Chlorine is a highly toxic element, which has the ability to denature protein. All living organisms are made up of protein; hence, any living organism that comes in contact with sufficient quantities of chlorine, are killed. Your skin will smell of chlorine for hours after being exposed to it, even after showering. It can take hours for the smell to leach out of your body. What is the chlorine that is being aborted by the body and being carried around in the blood stream doing to the rest of the body? How is chlorine affecting your liver, kidneys, lungs and other organs of the body?
According to an article published in the Natural Health Magazine, taking long hot showers with chlorinated water could pose a health risk. They also stated that another factor to be considered is the destruction by chlorine of the natural bacteria balance of our skin. Our skin has an ecology all of its own, which needs to be preserved in order to maintain healthy skin and its associated beauty.
How important is it to filter our shower water? After the research that I did to write this article, I believe that it is very important to filter our shower water. We need to all realize that vaporized chlorine is a hazard to our health, as well as our children and pets. We are worried about smoking, which is a choice, but maybe we need to be equally concerned about what is being forced on us and how it is affecting our health.
Remove chlorine as well as other toxic substances in our water. The showerheads I’m using are very inexpensive and definitely worth having! I feel good knowing I am not exposing my family to unnecessary chlorine and other contaminants in our showers.
